seems there are more and more of these guys around recently.. I wonder if there are pirate dogs? Or.. that natural enemy of pirates and cats… ninja dogs.

New power ranger? NO! rent-a-robot!

April 25, 2007

yes, you heard correctly. Except it wasn’t quiet 100% correct. It’s not so much a robot as a power suit. And it’s rentable for just under $600 a month. <more info here>.

Sucker tech

April 22, 2007

no, not the pron kind, nor the kind that helps you climb walls. Not even super leeches.. (hmm.. I should search for that on the net…) this is tech that has come out several times in the past and never succeeded. Well, this time around it has a few advantages over past versions from different companies.. First, and most importantly, you don’t need to write on a tablet or on special paper (thi has been a big rawback of previous attempts) oh, holy heck, I totally just realized you may not know what I’m talking about. This pen will write on paper and also transmit what it wrote to that flash drive you see ther which can then be imported into your pc, and translated into text and all sorts of stuff. Now.. the sucker tech title is because of the various attempts to bring this kind of tech to the world before. They all worked btu they all failed. Wil lthis one succeed? Geeks love this kind of stuff because it means they might put away their keyboards and mice and work with nothing but a pen. Even this rendition isn’t wquiet to that level yet, but it’s taking strides. First of all, it doesn’t require special paper or tablet to write on. That’s huge. The pen will send your notes (up to 1000 pages in its initial 512 mb capacity usb stick) that’s really cool.

Update! I looked around their site and these people are more on the ball than I originally thought. They’re thinking! Yay! (it’s so rare nowadays)..

also shows they’re rtying to make these pens so they can see what part of the screen they are pointing at and act as a touch-finger on non touchscreen screens. That’s super cool!
also, on another page of their site they’re talking about these pens as mice. This is all right on track. Exactly the kind of stuff thtat can catapult them into being purchased by just about everyone.
I mean.. if I can get a regular laptop instead of a tablet and still have tablet like functionality for much less money, why not? And instead of buying a graphics tablet I can just use this pen on my table top. This is really really cool. I just hope they keep the price low. I think if they do that (under $100) these things will end up on every office desk and home pc. If they’re more expensive, people will still buy them, but it will interfere with market penetration as a lot of people will say, “hmm.. 10$ mouse, or $200 pen thing? I can live without it” but at under $100 it’s xmas gift worthy and much more justifiable. J well.. as you can see.. my inner geek has been suckered in. I just hope the thing works.

Low tech geek stuff

April 22, 2007

Ok, so this is (almost) as low tech as it gets..
the caveat being that it has a lid that closes to keep your drink at its proper temperature. Frankly, I’m not sure why there aren’t r2d2 mugs out there, he’s the perfect shape along with a pop-top or straw insert option… I’m sure it’s on its way if it’s not here yet.
oh, and you can purchase these.. umm.. here..for only $20

Unused space finally used

April 18, 2007

This time, specifically, the toilet seat.
it’s a piece of plastic that kind of sits there and doesn’t do much. Well, someone finally decided it can serve more of a purpose. This toilet seat will deodorize (using a 4 stage deodorizing system). It also has a heat sensitive feature that will turn on a fan system to help cycle the.. um.. unwanted oderous air away faster. Also, it has a feature that will lower the lid slowly and gently making sure that .. well, that the lid is down.
more info regarding this here.

Thinnest screens ever?

April 15, 2007

What’s going on in that picture?
would you believe that this man is looking at a tv screen?
well, he is, so boots to what you believe!
ok, seriously though, that’s a new tv screen that should be available in 2008.
original versions will be 11 inches wide and 0.12 inches thick damn, huh?
this is from sony and sumsung. At several times the cost of LCD technology I think this will only be adopted by those that are either too rich to care and by those who have some cas, desperately need a tv and can only spare a tenth of an inch of space on their wall. (read: really really small apartments) like those we’re going to end up in here in boston if the prices keep climbing.. :-/ oh, more about it here: crunchgear.com. oh, and I’m sure also.. um.. submarines and airplanes would find this really useful. And portable devices maybe. But I wouldn’t pay $500 for one of these if I can have a high def 22″ widescreen for $270 (microcenter.com) btw, I have a 22″ widescreen.. it’s totally worth it for the price.. (a 24″ is over $650 generally) and a 19″ is around $200.

Pictures speak for themselves, (despite captions)

Laziest post ever. Re: coolest plane ever.

April 10, 2007

Ok, it’s an RC plane.. that weighs less than a piece of paper. Now, I gotta tell you, I try to kep an eye on these things cuz I think flying remote control things for inside the home are pretty damn cool. And I’ve purchased some $40 helicopters that flew great but there was some kind of problem (with both of them) so that within 15 minutes, they could only be controlled from 2 feet away.. L and I’ve seen some videos of some pretty crappy planes that were small enough to fly around the room (but the flight pattern was really really bad) now.. THIS thing… I mean.. just FOLLOW THIS LINK and check out the video.. read gizmodos review later… video first. It’s at the bottom of the page. J now THAT is an indoor plane!! ($300 is a bit ouchy)
