Ok, this is pretty cool. J

Realizing I don’t post nearly as often as I should, I’m adding quotes to the things that shall appear here. Not just any old things that people have said, but ones that are either rich in wisdom or wry humor. (or both).
Quote #1:
The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don’t have to waste your time voting.

Cheapest gps yet?

April 29, 2007

with a 3.5″ screen and using a 1gb sd card with maps of the lower 48 states this is pretty impressive for $200. Most car gps’s are around $500-$2000. So this is an impressive step. Sure, it may be one of those made in korea town in Taiwan but hey. If it works.. J general complaint is loading time is a bit slow, but initial load of a minute or so is about average for cold starting a gps unit from a few years ago. Totally worth the savings. Otherwise looks pretty standard. Heck, if I didn’t already have gps in my prius, this would be vying for top fo the list. (next would be a tom-tom-go) but it’d be a fight of $ vs what ever the tom tom has that this doesn’t. I assume there’s something…. Oh, heck. You can buy it here..

Cool new swimming thing

April 29, 2007

yup, that’s what it looks like. If you have a small pool and want to do laps this is the thing for you. Wear a belt connected to a pole near the edge that is also strapped beyond the edge of the pool. Allowing you to swim in place and.. well, if not so much doing a lap, then just kind of… well, swimming in place. Yup. Well, what can I say not much to it. But it’s nice for those of us who can only afford hot tubs. (which is still richer than my blood) but hey. It gives me hope. J

Photo gps

April 29, 2007

Ok, so this isn’t new stuff. But it’s always been kind of interesting to me. It’s a gps phot logger type of thing.

they have been around for years but this is one of the smallest ones I’ve seen. I’ll need to do some more research on this but the basic concept is that it’ll somehow sync with your camera, then as you take pictures (you may have to click a button on this thing too (?) and when you get to a pc it’ll sync it’s gps data with the photos taken at each spot. Then there are online things like google maps and flickr that can work together to show your pictures and the areas they were taken. That’s pretty damn neat. And an interesting new way to organize your photos. Must also be pretty nice for people vacationing people uploading photos and friends and family being able to see things from the grand canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, the place with the giant heads, etc…
oh, and only about $100
